How to Order

Like most of my couples, you probably haven’t had to order a wedding cake before - hey, you may not have even ordered any type of bespoke cake before and every cake supplier has a slightly different way of doing things.

Your wedding cake should be one of the most enjoyable parts of your wedding planning and I aim to make the experience as easy and stress-free for you as possible. From your first contact with me to the setting up of your cake on your wedding day, I will offer you a friendly and professional service from start to finish.

Below I have broken the process down so you can get an idea of what to expect if you would like to consider me as your cake supplier.  I have also created a comprehensive Wedding Cake Guide which explains each step of the journey (and some popular cake questions) in more detail which can be viewed via the button below!

1. Check Availability

Once you have your wedding date booked with your venue, get in touch to check my availability. I only take on a limited amount of orders per week to ensure that I can give each cake the time and attention it deserves.

I always suggest securing your date early to avoid any disappointment as dates do go quickly and due to postponements caused by the pandemic some months are already limited for 2022 & 2023.

If you know you would like me as your supplier but perhaps aren't quite sure what style of cake you would like just yet that’s absolutely fine - you can secure your date with a £100 booking fee. We will then arrange a date to start planning the all-important details and, of course, taste some cake!

You can check my availability below (and there is no obligation to proceed after enquiring).

2. Ideas & Pricing

Via email, we will chat about your plans and discuss how your cake can complement the rest of your wedding.  We will take a look at your approximate guest numbers, suitable tier arrangements, cake styles and also your wedding venue.

I will ask you to spend some time looking at wedding cakes online. Pinterest and Instagram are both fantastic resources and I actually insist that you share as many examples and Pinterest boards with me so I can really get a feel for the style of cakes you're drawn to.

I do prefer not to copy another cake artist's work but I can most definitely use any inspo to influence the overall design and style of your cake.

Once I have a good idea of the design, size and time required to create, I will calculate your estimated quote - this will be the cost of your cake plus a Delivery & Set-Up fee.

If this initial quote suits your budget and you wish to proceed it's time to get you booked in my diary!

3. Save the Date

Unlike several cake suppliers who charge a non-refundable booking fee of 50% of your total cake order, I simply require a £100 booking fee to secure your date and order in my diary.

This booking fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and once paid your wedding date is exclusive to you and will no longer be available to any other couples.

Your invoice will be sent by email and payment is required within 5 days of receiving via online bank transfer. At this stage, I will also send my Terms & Conditions for you to read, sign and return.

As soon as your payment is cleared we will select a date for you to receive your complimentary Cake Tasting Box for you and your partner to sample some delicious cakes in the comfort of your home.

For more info on booking fees and payments please take a look at my Wedding Cake Guide.

4. Cake Tasting

Cake tasting is one of THE best parts of designing your wedding cake - let's be honest, who isn't going to enjoy having an excuse to indulge in several slices of freshly baked cake all in one sitting?

I bake and assemble every box fresh to order and each box contains 6 cake slices of YOUR choice from my gorgeous cake menu - specially designed to enjoy in the comfort of your own home preferably with a glass of bubbly!

I send all boxes via Royal Mail Tracked 24 so you receive your box the very next day and each box is assembled in letterbox-friendly packaging so you needn't wait around for your postman.

Cake Tasting Boxes are a complimentary part of the BakeBella service if you have already secured your wedding date with a booking fee. Alternatively, if you prefer to try my cakes before committing and paying a booking fee, you may purchase a box separately - Cake Tasting Boxes are priced at £35 and include Tracked 24 delivery.

Please note, I cannot hold your date for you until a booking fee is paid.

5. Cake Designing

This is where you get to see your dream wedding cake starting to come together!

It is very much a collaboration process as we share our ideas on how to create a cake that's unique and personal to you.

Using our shared ideas and the cake inspo I asked you to collect earlier on in our discussions, I will sketch up a design or two which will help you and your partner to visualise what your wedding cake will look like. Using this sketch as a starting point we will work together to tweak and adjust all those little details until you are completely happy.

Once the cake design is complete and you've chosen your flavours (yes, you may choose different flavours for each cake tier) I will confirm any price adjustments before typing up your order. This form will include all details regarding your wedding cake as well as your contact details, venue details and more. It will also outline your Final Balance and due date so you can make a note in your diary.

Now you can sit back and relax knowing that your wedding cake is in safe hands!

6. Final Countdown

I will get in touch with you about 8 weeks prior to your wedding day just to see how your plans are coming along. We will briefly touch base on your cake design to make sure that nothing changed.

If colour-matching this is when I will ask you to pop any colour samples/fabric swatches in the post so they arrive within plenty of time for me to use as my guide.

If you are having fresh flowers on your cake, I will also contact your florist to discuss quantities and coordinate our arrival times.

The final balance is also due at this point and I kindly ask for you to settle this in time to avoid any setbacks.

For further info on final balances please take a look at my Wedding Cake Guide.

7. Wedding Week!

The week of your wedding, as well as working on your cake, I will liaise with your venue to confirm the delivery and set up timings for your day and supply them with a copy of my business insurance certificate.

On your wedding day, your cake will be safely transported to your venue and set up as discussed and any final additions made. When finished, I’ll provide your Event Coordinator with a BakeBella handover pack - this contains details on storing and cutting the cake, as well as flavours, ingredients lists and allergens. I will also take a few photos and video snippets for use on my website and social media.

Finally (after what probably feels like forever) it will be time to cut your cake and enjoy it with your guests. It’s one of the last moments captured of your wedding day and will be (as some say) the icing on the cake!

As our journey together comes to an end, I really appreciate your feedback and kindly ask you to leave a Google review and, if you're happy to, share some pictures of your amazing wedding with me. I love to hear about how perfect your day was and feature you as one of my happy couples! I will always happily credit your photographer and other suppliers so be sure to leave their names and social media handles.

Any Questions?

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have (no matter how small or silly you think they may be). Most couples have never ordered a wedding cake before so if there are any aspects of the ordering process that you aren't quite sure about please just pop me a message!
